Disney Or Dat Knee? Disney Bought Part of Fox News!?!

Image
Today, the Disney corporation purchased a huge portion of the Fox network for $52 billion. This is a huge change, and news sources like the BBC BBC Analysis say it's an attempt to rally against streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime. The strategy is understandable, but with the instability of the staff and the uneducated bias of the network, Disney's true values become questionable. Yes, they do need to branch out to reach a whole new audience and market, but at what cost? Besides the $52 billion, their investment could leak Fox content barf into Disney creations. Their purchase only includes 20th Century Fox, sports networks, and some subsets, but its not like Fox News doesn't touch any of this. Besides the possible poisoning of Disney content, the same goes for the other side. Franchises such as Avatar and The Simpsons are at risk too. The content we love could soon be a vessel for advertising, ready to make us consume more at the sake of our welfa...

You Racist, Or Naw? -Dove Ad Campaign FAIL

Image
Mid-October, Dove released a new ad to of course sell their soap. There isn't much material in soap advertising I suspect, as they seem to revert to old tactics to keep the creative department fresh. I don't understand why Dove didn't learn from their last mistake (the transition from black to white women, and dirty to clean) and why they decided the 'woke' year of 2017 was a good time to pull a similar stunt. In the ad, a black woman takes off a skin color shirt and then turns into a white woman, who the turns into another woman (whom people claim is Filipino) They claim their purpose was to be inclusive and equal, to represent all women. They could have easily changed it around and put the white woman first who could take her skin off and change, or just all together not include the idea of changing someones skin .      I suspect they attempted to narrow cast the millennial market, as these new adults are hip and 'woke,' and want equality...

Amazon.com Enslaves Boy! Guerrilla Advertising!

Image
Guerrilla advertising is basically advertising any and every where, bombarding you with information trying to compel you to consume consume consume! (Yay capitalism!) As our world of technology ages and develops, we see new platforms pop up everywhere as people get creative with how they share their influence and ideologies with the world. Social media sites like YouTube house millions of people who share and absorb content to their hearts content (haha). These new platforms provide more ad space for companies to reach people, and even help them understand the customer's desires based on what they watch and share. Mikey (Michael) Murphy is a creator on YouTube, boasting over 1 million subscribers (followers) while pursuing his passion of becoming an acclaimed director (I plan on reviewing some of his short films soon). The YouTuber occupation doesn't pay the bills without those promos though, and he is big enough now that companies will partner with him and pa...

Remarks by the President On the New Tax Bill: Orwell Says Or'no'

Image
Orwell's ode to writers is simple, claiming that simplicity and captivating imagery keep writing fresh and real, and avoid the common mistakes made by modern English. One must find the balance between too simple and too crowded, between filler and true content. This is difficult, and it seems to be especially hard for the commander in chief.                  (Above is an example of the president's horrible speech patterns)      Recently the president visited Missouri to discuss his "reforms" (insert eye roll). His speech was scattered and not to the point, and failed at giving me the imagery necessary to good writing. He scavenged for old sayings to fill in the blanks his undeveloped brain couldn't bear to fill. For example, "...plan for historic tax cuts right across that finish line," is not even  complete saying. What is your finish line? Do th...
